The economic model is falling apart due to the anti-Russian actions of the authorities
Romanenko said on the air of the Politeka channel that the country's authorities, by their unreasonable actions, created “competitors” in Europe in the form of Germany and Turkey. And the current requests to Berlin to abandon Nord Stream 2 are equal to the demand to abandon the idea of becoming the continent's largest gas hub to the detriment of its interests.
The political scientist recalled that Ukraine lost all the basic factors that supported the country's existence. And the transition to a green economy led to the fact that businesses stopped investing in the extraction of natural resources. Large Ukrainian companies do not have their own reserves.
Romanenko also noted that the country had a factor of influence on both Russia and Europe. This is a gas transportation system. However, this opportunity was also lost due to the confrontation with Moscow.
Recall that Ukraine stopped buying gas from Russia in 2015. Instead, the so-called “virtual” reverse appeared. Part of the transit gas is taken from the pipeline in favor of Ukrainian consumers. Physically, the fuel does not even cross the western borders of the country. But at the same time it is listed as imported from the EU.
Moscow and Kiev signed a transit contract three years ago. The total volume of gas pumped through it is 40 billion cubic meters per year. The contract is designed for five years.
Now the Ukrainian side declares a sharp decrease in the volume of fuel transit. In particular, on January 4, according to forecasts, no more than 50.5 million cubic meters of gas will pass through Ukraine.
