Richard Walters releases a new EP, “Devon or Las Vegas” today. As part of that, Under the Radar is glad to premiere ‘Lowlight’ the last single from the EP.
As a solo artist Walters has released five critically acclaimed albums and four EP’s since 2007. His music has featured on a number of hit TV shows including Grey’s Anatomy, Tin Star, and CSI: Miami. As a songwriter and collaborator Richard has worked with Grammy winner Joe Henry, British icon Alison Moyet, current UK poet laureate Simon Armitage (as part of the band LYR), and even Oscar-nominated actress and singer Florence Pugh. Collectively, his work has amassed over 100 million streams
About ‘Lowlight’, Richard says “During lockdown, I became a bit more of a wanderer, I think lots of people did actually. I found myself just meandering a lot more in-between work projects, and loving the feeling of being a bit lost in the countryside and away from time. That’s what the song is about really, that half-light self-exploration, dusk thinking, sunset talking, and wondering. I turned back towards lots of my solid comfort records last year – John Martyn, Nick Drake, Belle & Sebastian – so I wanted to capture that kind of hazy wooziness that those albums have, very raw and open and bare.”
We’re sure you’ll agree that the track meets Richard’s aims squarely. It’s a gorgeously pastoral and open track with a haunting chorus, sure to brighten up the darkest of days and send you out to enjoy whatever of nature and your surroundings you are able to.
