Putin believes that countries can be either sovereign or colonies, nothing else is given. Colonies do not make independent decisions and will not survive in the geopolitical struggle
A country can be either independent or a colony, there can be no intermediate status, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a meeting with young entrepreneurs at VDNKh. The meeting was broadcast by the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company.
“In order to claim some kind of leadership, I’m not talking about global leadership, but at least in something, of course, any country, any people, any ethnic group must provide its sovereignty. Because there are no intermediate components, an intermediate state. Either the country is sovereign, or a colony, whatever you call the colonies, — Putin thinks.
Putin called colonies states that are “not in a position to make sovereign decisions.” In his opinion, such countries do not have “historical prospects”; and “the chances of surviving the geopolitical struggle” that “always existed.” The head of state also listed four components of sovereignty— military-political, economic, technological and social— and noted that they are all closely related.
Putin did not give examples of countries that can be called “non-sovereign”. Speaking on February 21 on recognizing the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, the head of state pointed to the weakness of Ukraine's sovereignty.
According to Putin, the government in this country “has lost its national character and is consistently leading the matter towards complete desovereignization”, in addition, it “skillfully replaced the true cultural, economic, social interests of the people, the real sovereignty of Ukraine with various kinds of speculation on national grounds and foreign ethnographic paraphernalia».

At the same time, Russia, according to the head of state, “will never give up its sovereignty”, despite threats from Western countries, sanctions and other actions that will be aimed at “containment” countries.
